  • Created a solution to a problem
  • Communicate ideas in new and innovative ways
  • Quality of video content
  • How likely is the tip to be used

Full List of Prizes:

  • First Place Prize – US $1,000 + mentor Q&A with high-profile IEEE Computer Society member
  • Second Place Prize – US $700
  • Third Place Prize (staff pick) – US $350

Video Preparation Instructions

  • Aspect Ratio: 9:16
  • Resolution: at minimum, 720p/ 1080 pixels x 1920 pixels
  • Video length: Videos should be as concise as possible, not to exceed 45 seconds

Guidelines

Please make sure that your video contains the following items:

  • Video length – Videos should be as concise as possible, not to exceed 45 seconds in total length.
  • Good quality voice-over or background music. Sound quality is crucial for the overall impact of a video recording. If you’re going to do voice-over, we recommend that you:
  • Find a quiet room to eliminate background noises – whether people in the room, the air conditioner, snack bags rustling, etc. If you run into a noisy situation, pause the recording and address the issue before starting over before the point at which the noise started.
  • Soundcheck. Plug some headphones into your camera so you can hear what the camera is hearing, and adjust the volume as necessary. Do a quick sound check before setting the sound levels in advance.
  • Microphones. If you can afford one, a lavalier microphone that clips on the speaker’s lapel and runs straight into your camera is a great option to hear only the subject, rather than everything else that’s going on in the background.
  • We require that your video does NOT contain any of the following items:
    • Any images, sounds, or music for which you do not hold the copyright or the rights to use. You can, however, use Creative Commons content such as music available at ccMixter or Newgrounds.
    • Sensitive, private, or proprietary information cannot be disclosed at publication time.
    • Language, viewpoints, or imagery may cause offense to any individuals or groups.
