2024 Regional Chapters Meet in Sri Lanka

Region 10 Congress 2024The IEEE R10 Computer Society Chapters Congress 2024 took place 8-10 March 2024 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, at the MaRadHa hotel. The congress commenced with a warm welcome address from Mohamed Rawidean, R10 Coordinator, and Eric Berkowitz, Computer Society Director of Membership and Education.

Key highlights of the event included:

Day 1

  • Dhammika Marasinghe, Sri Lanka Section Chair, extended a gracious welcome to attendees, emphasizing the significance of the gathering along with a virtual talk presented by Dr. Vishnukumar, Past Kerala CS Chair.
  • Attendees closed the evening with a dinner at Diyawannawa Lake, accompanied by traditional Sri Lankan dancing.


Day 2

  • The second day began with virtual welcome addresses from Jyotika Athavale, 2024 Computer Society president, and David Bondurant, Vice-Chair of the MGA Board.
  • Chapter presentations from various regions, including Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Bangalore, Madras, Vizag Bay, Delhi, and Kerala, provided insights into regional initiatives and achievements.
  • Panel discussions on programs, regional collaboration, grants, and financial management offered a platform for fruitful exchanges and networking opportunities.
  • Attendees received gift packs featuring Sri Lankan souvenirs, including batik designs, congress t-shirts, wall art, and key tags.
  • The congress concluded with a closing dinner at the Blue Orbit by Citrus, which is atop the Lotus Tower and offers panoramic views of Colombo.
  • Prof. K. Subramanian, Computer Society DVP and Past Chair of the Delhi Chapter, delivered a talk titled “Innovations in Data Science/Engineering,” underscoring the importance of technological advancements in the field.
  • Kavinga Upul Ekanayaka, Excom member from the Sri Lanka Section, brought the congress to a close, reflecting on the event’s significance and looking forward to future collaborations.
