Hironori Washizaki Selected 2024 President-Elect (2025 President)

Hironori Washizaki is a Professor and the Associate Dean of the Research Promotion Division at Waseda University in Tokyo and a Visiting Professor at the National Institute of Informatics. He also works in the industry as Outside Directors of SYSTEM INFORMATION and eXmotion.

IEEE activities: Hironori currently serves as 1st Vice President of the IEEE CS to lead its activities and future directions. He has been on CS BoG since 2021. He has led professional and educational activities, including the evolution of the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK) and organizing educational courses and certifications at the CS Professional and Educational Activities Board (PEAB). He was awarded Golden Core Member, Distinguished Contributor, and Spirit of the Computer Society Award from CS. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing (TETC), Steering Committee Member of the IEEE Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training (CSEE&T), and Advisory Committee Member of the IEEE CS flagship conference COMPSAC. He is a Professional Member of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu. He has been the general chair and program chair of multiple IEEE conferences, including ICST, CSEE&T, and SIoT/SISA of COMPSAC. Additionally, he has been the Chair of the CS Japan Chapter.

Research and Contribution: Hironori’s research interests include systems and software engineering. He received his Ph.D. in information and computer science from Waseda University in 2003. He has published over 150 research papers in refereed international journals and conferences, including Computer, TETC, EMSE, SCICO, ICSE, and ASE. He has led many academia-industry joint research and large-funded projects in software design, quality assurance, and machine learning software engineering. Since 2015, he has been the Convener of ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC7/WG20 to standardize bodies of knowledge and professional certifications. He is leading a professional IoT and AI education project called SmartSE.

Grace A. Lewis Selected 2024 First Vice President

Grace Lewis is a Principal Researcher at the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) where she conducts applied research on how software engineering and software architecture principles, practices and tools need to evolve in the face of emerging technologies. She is the principal investigator for the Automating Mismatch Detection and Testing in Machine Learning Systems project that is developing toolsets to support these two activities, in addition to other projects that are advancing the state of the practice in software engineering for machine learning (SE4ML). Grace is also the lead for the Tactical and AI-Enabled Systems (TAS) applied research and development team at the SEI that is creating and transitioning innovative solutions, principles, and best practices for (1) architecting and developing systems to support teams operating at the tactical edge in resource-constrained environments, (2) engineering AI software systems, and (3) using AI/ML at the edge for improved capabilities and mission support. She is currently Second Vice President of the IEEE Computer Society, VP of the IEEE Computer Society Technical & Conference Activities Board (T&C), Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Vice-Chair for the IEEE Computer Society Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE), Alternate Representative for IEEE-CS on the ABET CSAB Board of Directors, as well as an ABET Evaluator for Computer Science undergraduate programs. Grace holds a B.Sc. in Software Systems Engineering and a Post-Graduate Specialization in Business Administration from Icesi University in Cali, Colombia; a Master in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University; and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Nils Aschenbruck Selected 2024 Second Vice President

Nils Aschenbruck is a Full Professor for Computer Science at Osnabrueck University, Germany. His research interests include computer networks, network security, and scenario modeling. Dr. Aschenbruck has received over 30 external grants from both government funding agencies and industry. In total, his projects have received over 5 million euros in external funding. He has published over 80 refereed papers in international journals and conference proceedings.

Dr. Aschenbruck served as reviewer for the Humboldt Foundation, the German National Science Foundation, as well as the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. From 2013 to 2017 he was the chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Computer Communications (TCCC), from 2016 to 2017 the chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Activities Committee (TAC), and from 2020 to 2022 an elected member of the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors. He is a Steering Committee member of the IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN), IEEE International Performance Computing and Communications Conference (IPCCC) as well as a member of the IEEE Open Journal of the Computer Society Editorial Board.

Dr. Aschenbruck received his graduate diploma and PhD in computer science from Bonn University, Germany, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. He continued as a senior researcher and head of the research area “tactical wireless multi-hop networks” at the communication systems group of Bonn University, Germany. In spring 2010, he worked at the Colorado School of Mines, USA for a term, co-funded by the DAAD short term lectureship program. Since 2012 he holds a full professorship for distributed systems at Osnabrueck University. Since 2017 he serves as department head of the Computer Science department, member of the dean’s council, as well as the University senate.
